Wi-Fi Cafes

[#brooklyn|Free Wi-Fi Cafes to meetup for co-working by City, State, Country ]

[#brooklyn|GREAT resource: ]http://www.wifimug.org/ and feel free to contribute links to the Ma.gnolia group. Also, Anchor Free has a pretty thorough search across the globe and various wifi tools.

Is the map of wireless nodes at NodeDB.com: The Wireless Database Project useful for us?

Berkeley, CA USA

Hi, Craig Latta here. I love this place. Fast net, power, plentiful indoor and outdoor seating, sofas, good food (with tons more on the same block), plenty of distracting people. :)

Group seating: 6+

From Cheesebikini?: The staff here can be a tad gruff, but this is a decent place to get work done. There are plenty of tables and the management provides more than the usual number of power outlets; the coffee's not bad and they stay open til 11 pm weeknights.

Group seating: ~4

  • A Cuppa Tea - 3202 College Avenue - (510) 420-0196.

Review from Enric: A large variety of very good teas and coffee. A fair amount of space and seating in the front area and more in the back. Should be able to seat six or more people together when not busy. I haven't been there for over a year, so my review may be dated.

Group seating: ~6 or more

  • Fertile Grounds - 1796 Shattuck Ave - (510) 548-1423.

Review from Enric: Nice, small cafe with good coffee. Don't expect to be able to seat more than two people usually.

Group seating: 2

  • Caffe Strada - 2300 College Ave - (510) 843-5282

Review from Enric: Next to the top of the U.C. Berkeley main campus. Predictably, a good number of college students frequent there. Inside the tables seat about four and outside two. There's plenty of power outlets in the outside area.

Group seating: ~4

San Francisco, CA USA

  • Brain Wash - 1122 Folsom St. - (415) 861-3663

Review from Enric: Most people come for hanging out and talking. Favors a punk/alternative crowd. It can get a bit loud for working, especially during music or stand up comedy nights. The larger tables seat around four.

Open: Sun-Thur: 7 am - 11 pm; Fri-Sat: 7 am - 12 am

Group seating: ~4.

All in one

Review from Liz Nice windows in this 2nd floor cafe, overlooking Bush St. and the alleyway restaurant next door. There are big tables, small tables, a couch, and armchairs. Coffee quality varies but it's a great work hangout next to Chinatown.

Open: Mon-Fri. 8am - 8pm; Sat 10-2; closed Sun.

Group seating: ~4

  • Papa Toby's Revolution Cafe - 3248 22nd Street - (415) 642-0474.

Review from Enric: Around the corner from Ritual Roasters. The wi-fi has been known to be less reliable in the past -- may be different now. Seats two to four people per table. Though tables could be put together. Is crowded on evenings, especially when there's a musical performance.

Group seating: ~2-4

  • Ritual Roasters - 1026 Valencia Street - (415) 641-1024.

Review from Enric: Good coffees and wi-fi. Most of the tables seat two to four. But in the front there's a couch that can seat about eight. And in the back there's a long table that will seat about ten. With several couches that will also seat around ten. The problem is that most times it is filled or close to full. So reserve a space early.

Open: M - F 6am - 11pm; Sat 7 am - 11pm; Sun 7am - 9pm (power outlets covered on weekends)

Group seating: ~4-12

  • Sugarlump Lounge - 2862 24th Street at Bryant - 415-826-LUMP

Review from DmitryKohmanyuk: Ok coffee, good pies (meat and vegetarian) and working wi-fi. Great-looking chairs (leather, colored). Mix of high and low tables. Most tables seat four. Couches would fit 2 or 3. Pretty empty during the day.

Site: http://www.sugarlumpcoffeelounge.com/

Open: every day until 10pm

  • Sweet Inspiration - 2239 Market St. - (415) 621-8664.

Review from Enric: Good coffees and sweets. Tables can seet about 4 or more. The limitation is few power outlets.

Open Mon-Thrs: 7 am - 11 pm, Sat: 8 am - 12:30 am, Sun: 8 am - 11:30 pm,

Group seating: ~4

Friendly staff, good reasonably priced (if limited) menu, good working tables and sufficient power. Designed more for solos than groups. One of the better cafes to work in in the Russian Hill/Nob Hill part of town. I only wish they were open later.

Open weekdays 7 to 7, weekends 8 to 8.

Internet connectivity is only fair despite being not very busy when I visited on a Wednesday morning. The broadcast SSID, Zero Cafe, reflects the former name of this sleek looking cafe. This isn't an all day work site as there are no power outlets. The food is a bit pricey: a simple banana bran muffin cost $ 2.44. Still, given the scarcity of free WiFi in the Financial District (OK, the location is technically Jackson Square, but it's two blocks from the Transamerica Pyramid), at least it works for checking e-mail and feeds between meetings.

Open weekdays 8 AM to 4 PM.

  • Sage Cafe - 340 Grove St. - (415) 252-9888.

Friendly staff, free WiFi, good reasonably priced menu from drinks to snacks to sandwiches to salads to noodles. Nice large cups of coffee. Couches and sofas and lots of tables, chairs and outlets. Tables seat 2, but can be moved around to seat more.

Open weekdays 8am-8pm, weekends 10am to 8pm.

This place is in a house, so there are many rooms, the music is not loud at all. The wifi can be a little flaky. They have food, coffee, and beer. The best hommade ginger beer too! and they have a deck, so in nice weather you can sit outside.
