Coworking refers to independent professionals working together in an open "cafe-like environment". It is a place to work without the corporate cubicle or the kitchen table, and without the screaming kids or lack of available seating of a coffee shop!
Coworking space is more than workspace, it is a community. A place where like minded individuals (freelancers, entrepreneurs, telecommuters, etc) can work independently, yet do so in a collaborative environment. It is based on the notion that although the technology exists to work from home, we are social creatures by nature (ask facebook, myspace and twitter!). Not only is working from home boring, it is often uninspiring, and lacks the ability to bounce ideas off of another human being.
This social interaction inherently fosters collaboration, synergy and networking as well.
"SoCo Studio" - A social coworking studio where "synergy, collaboration and creativity meet".
Soco studio opens December 2008 in historic downtown Apex at 104-B N. Salem St. In addition to workspace, SoCo will offer classes and seminars, conference/meeting space, and social/networking events as well. "Members" will be able to sign up for semi-private, or open workspace for $175-$250/month, or pay weekly or daily. A weekend rate will also be available.
