Page history last edited by Shane Austin 9 years ago

Since its founding in 2011, the co+Lab has been bringing people together to create a more positive and meaningful work experience — working and living better lives.

The co+Lab is located in the Kelowna Innovation Centre in downtown Kelowna, centrally located and close to all amenities. This space brings out the best in freelancers, consultants, and entrepreneurs by providing a focused environment for them to work together and independently.

How did it all start?

In early 2011, the two co-founders of the space, Shane Austin and Daryl Chymko rallied the community through local meetups, workshop discussions, and coworking jellies. Between April and August of 2011, they were able to attract six full-time members who committed to join for a launch in September 2011. It was a slow progressive growth ahead, and the co+Lab membership grew from 6 to 12 within the first year, and maintained those numbers until 2013. 2013 was a big year. The membership model was changed to allow multiple tiers, and opened the opportunity for many part time members to come aboard. From late 2013 to late 2014 membership grew to 25. As of February 2015, co+Lab is nearly at 50 members and still growing.

People

The co+Lab is made up of some of Kelowna’s most expert and gifted developers, designers, technologists, problem-solvers and creative thinkers. Imagine being able to tap into this pool of great resources—all in one spot! Many of our people are actively involved in the community, through groups like Digital OkanaganOKDG and Okanagan Young Professionals.

We’re heavily investing in our industry’s future through co+Hatch student incubator, a mentoring and coaching program aimed at new graduates in tech, design and media.

Layout & Facilities

Physically the space is approximately 2800 sq. ft., with a securely locked entrance. There is an open plan work area with 15-18 workspaces, as well as 6 private offices.

co+Engine, our collaborative learning space, is allocated to hosting events, like team meetings, workshops and presentations. We also have a bookable meeting space that comfortably fits up to six people.
