The Nadine Project: Open Coworking Software
Thank's JellyS for the use of your cow photo!
What Is It?
Nadine is a software project originally developed at Office Nomads to handle daily operations of the space. It manages members, tracks their activity, and generates billing reports and statistics.
The Development Plan
There are a lot of things Nadine can do if we can distribute development costs. We've evaluated and researched a number of great features we would like to implement and can mature the project together with the right help. With multiple spaces running the software, it can evolve into a powerful tool.
Potential Features
- Full Functionally - The software currently relies on the django admin console to enter some data. This needs to be smoothed out.
- Automatic Activity Logging - Activity is tracked using sign-in sheets (highly personal and simple) and entered manually. The software can be hooked into the firewall to monitor network usage and track this information automatically. Care needs to be taken to keep this personal.
- Access Control - We've researched what it would take to integrate RFID key card locks into the member database. There are a number of projects that can be pulled in to create a full solution.
- Automated Billing - The billing report is processed manually and not connected to any specific billing software.
- Advanced Reporting - There are so many more statistical reports that could be generated. Data is so sexy.
Open Source or Hosted Product
It should be noted that this software is designed to be run on-site, locally, and that it's developed using an open source model in contrast to a hosted service such as Cobot. Alexander and the Cobot crew have done a great job polishing their product and providing an excellent service. If you are evaluating options, you should make sure to compare and contrast these distinctly different offerings.
